Welcome to Dololly's Daylilies....home of thingamabobs, dohickeys, whachamacallits, dolollies, and a humorous approach to "retirement relaxation". Being born and raised in the South, these descriptive terms are multi-meaningful to us and sometimes precisely descriptive of the objects being referred to. When utilized, these terms usually indicate that the object is beyond description; however, the term 'dololly' has taken on additional significance in that it describes part of the male reproductive system when it's exact description is embarrassing.
Since several of the flower parts are frequently described as being the male or female components, the second reference to the term "dololly" allows the term to be an acceptable Southern descriptor when used in mixed company. A suspicion that the appearance of daylily flowers results primarily from the contribution of the male flower parts (Flowers that stand up and smile; Crainer, Everett, THE DAYLILY JOURNAL, pg 27, vol 67, no 1, Spring 2012) produces further justification for naming our endeavor "Dololly's Daylilies". The fact that several of our friends didn't understand the connection made for many humorous occasions when asked why we chose the name Dololly's Daylilies !
Additional humor is constantly being provided by the notion that Dololly's Daylilies is a venue for "retirement relaxation". While relaxation is amplified by enjoying the beauty of a single daylily and knowing that our efforts contributed to it's existance, significant stress is constant throughout the process of raising and hybridizing daylilies. When the process encompasses several acres of daylilies, retirement is a prerequisite to having enough time to accomplish what is required. Hence, it is the notion that propagating and producing hybrid daylilies provides "retirement relaxation" that is humorous. Having fun while enjoying the process and being able to make difficulty seem humorous helps us to continue.
It is with a great amount of pride that we introduce some of our hybridizing efforts for your consideration in this website which was produced by our son, Troy.
Since this is our first effort at selling the daylilies we have hybridized, the prices are about 25% lower than other sites ask and we are offering two fans rather than one. Collection prices are another 25 to 30 % lower than the total would be, and we are offering three fans of each cultivar. On a per fan basis, these are an exceptional value!
