ORION'S NEBULA

While distinctly different from the stellar Orion's Nebula (inset photo) , this daylily could easily be imagined to have resulted from a supernova type explosion.  Radiatng outward from the greenish tint of the ovarian region and through the golden perianth tube throat into the diffuse pink-red eyezone is a red zone of acretion (concentration of color) that surrounds the eye zone and continues to circle outward and back onto itself to isolate clear patches of petal and form the inner rim of the petal double edge. While most of the colors of the stellar nebula can be observed in this flower, blue-violet regions only exist in very small spots along the most concentrated regions of the inner rim.  Truly one of the most distinctive daylily flowers around !  Note that the relieved veins coursing through the petals take on a darker representation of the color of the region through which they pass.  Numerous flutes along the double edge along with crimping and folding, produce a three dimensional effect causing a slight upward cupping of the petals.  The distinct gold outter edge of the petals is also present on the sepals which along with the pale colors of the sepal act to enforce the aweome colors of Orion's Nebula daylily.  Pod and pollen fertile.
